Goku was way more violent

Have you noticed that in DB Goku kills huge amounts of Red Ribbon Army Soldiers along with Tambourine yet
in DBZ he seems to be very hesitant to kill anyone. Maybe it was his training with Kami that made him less
careless about lives, but even after this it seems that he doesn't care enough about the fate of billions if he can fight
strong opponents again (Piccolo Jr, Vegeta). What are your thoughts on this?

they indeed turned goku into a pussy in dbz.
probaly had to do with trying to make him abit of a role model for kids

Indeed, Goku was way more violent in Dragonball. It even extended to his techniques, which included eye-poking, groin kicks, and cheap shots. Conversely, in Z, he wouldn't even use weapons.

To start with, Goku was a kid who knew some martial arts. He got wrapped up in a quest with Bulma, random people kept trying to kill him, her and everyone else along for the ride, so he dealt with them. At this point, he wasn't old enough to understand higher philosophy questions such as the morals of killing.

As the series progresses, he slowly slips more from an adventurer that gets caught up in world altering shit to an martial artist...that the same thing happens to, and By Z he's just a martial artist who the fate of the world keeps depending on.

Goku never really signed up as a hero. Start of Z? "I'm champion of the world, and have a family". Then....his brother, FROM SPACE, comes and fucks that up. Then Vegeta comes. They don't go to Namek to save it, they go to Namek to fix what Vegeta and Nappa wrecked. Killing Frieza just happened as a side effect.

Then they come back....and Gero fucks with them. Androids, then Cell. Goku's excited that he gets to fight strong opponents, but at this point DBZ starts switching into a Generational progression story, Ala the Son/Student taking over the role of the father.

The fans didn't like that though, so Goku comes back from heaven (Lets face it, that was the happiest time of Goku's life....erm, existance. No responsibility of saving the world, no earth shattering plots, no family to get pissed off at him, just training and fighting). Even at this point, all he does is Fight Vegeta and stall Buu before passing some techs onto the kids so they can handle it themselves.

The stage is set for Goku to go back to just being a martial artist and the Kids / Gohan to save the world again....when Toriyama starts getting shit tons of mail and death threats.

So he as Buu absorb the would be Hero (Gohan again) and Goku gets called back...yet again. Vegeto happens, and Kid Buu is invented to make a creature that while strong enough to punish Goku even at his strongest, doesn't outright curb stomp.

Enter spirit bomb, Existence itself is saves... and Goku goes back to training.


Dragonball isn't about a Hero. Dragonball is life story of a Martial Artist who shit kept happening to.
