hey leon, another hypothetical....
If Gohan went batman mental over Goku's death and wanting "to be the very best like no one ever was" lets say he trained extensively the 7 years between Cell and Buu focusing on two things.
1. His base rivaling that of Piccolo's
2. Mastering SSJ2 as his father helped him master SSJ1
With a credible sparing partner Piccolo's new growth keeps him well out of reach for Gohan's base which would presumably be around Piccolo pre training with Gohan for 7 years. Gohan's skill and tactics improve as he learns to contend with a Piccolo more powerful than himself [in base anyway] an added by product of his chosen sparing partner. Piccolo could use weights similar to the ones King Kai placed on Goku [and south kai increased] in addition to what he already uses to level the playing field.
Now while Goku arrives for a day, Vegeta claims to be stronger than 18 without the need of SSJ1; by contrast Gohan could boast the same and then some.
How could this hypothetical Gohan and Piccolo stand in comparison to Goku and Vegeta of Buu saga lore?
